Own versus rent boat slips

I guess I’m asking wondering depositive and the negatives about owning a slip rather than renting, for my own needs not that I really have any at this age (72). It would seem a perfect way for a slip to pay for itself and actually not use it when I need to travel which would be June July August because of the summer heat I would go north any input appreciated thank you!
